meat is called pork or ham. Cow meat is beef or steak. (This is true in French as well as we call the meat of a vache - boeuf, and the meat of a cochon we call porc.). We call a
trout a trout and an anchovy an anchovy. Do we need to disguise mammals
but not fish? Turkey is called turkey and duck is called duck. No one
says I'm eating a cow. No one says we're having pig do you want some
snout? People would laugh if you offered them Cow. But no one minds if
you say We're having fish. Many today proclaim sorrow over red meat while a tomato is a tomato is a tomato although we sometimes call a tomato a beefy tomato indicating bigness and juiciness like a steak but without the guilt. Good tastes are not always in good taste. Do you know what you're drinking and who made that stuff? The Chinese eat dogs and cats. We do not, and we do not eat horse meat. A potato is a potato even if you pronounce it differently. Many think that because vegetables don't move they aren't animals. But they do move. They just move very slowly. Plants grow and reach out for sunlight and resources and are as imperialistic as any bear as they try to stifle the life around them to make room for their own lives.
